Cellsites

In the past there was a policy that stopped cellsites being located within school grounds, then there was a Government initiative for The Digital Strategy, creating our digital future, which needed the rules repealed.

Cellphones

Currently there is no government policy governing the use of cellphones in schools.

Nor is there a policy towards the advertising of cellphone use to children. Although the Stewart report recommended that cellphones are never promoted to children due to their developing systems.

Recently the WHO, World Health Organization, representative Dr M Repacholi, mentioned that scientists are concerned that childrens' skulls are thinner and their brains are still developing. Therefore, the risk of electromagnetic energy damaging their brains could be greater than the risk for adults, and recommended that children should use hands-free headsets,

“We certainly advocate precautionary measures for children,” Repacholi told the Toronto Star, then he seemed to change his mind.

Many schools are left to put policies in place themselves regarding the use of cellphones. They have become bullying machines with malicious text messaging, and a nuisance and distraction when ringing in classrooms. The camera cellphones have become very dangerous tools, invading the privacy of toilets and changing rooms.
